With their prominent foreheads, the Primitives were Neanderthals, forces of nature. They had everything they needed to thrive, and yet they disappeared… The Primitives are two blocks of clay cut in half exactly to make one woman and one man in a total parity of mass. They are sculpted as if deep in thought on their very nature.
“When I placed the two parts of clay on the table, I thought of imbuing one with femininity, one with masculinity. The idea of Adam and Eve guided my hand. The prominent foreheads immediately took me back to prehistoric times. I symbolised the bodies in an extreme way, as if to show that the block of clay was still there…”
