According to the orally transmitted legend, it was the Sun-God Inti who tasked Manco Capac and his spouse Mama Ocllo with building their capital city in Cusco.
One day, Inti brought the royal couple up from the depths of the Titicaca Lake, then instructed them to head to the north to establish the worship of Inti. Since then, the Incas have claimed their heavenly origins.
