The statue symbolises Knossos, the palace of the mysterious civilisation of the Minoans. Many see in this palace the mythical labyrinth where, according to legend, the Minotaur was trapped. This is the famous story of Ariadne’s thread. The statue here is the plaything of Theseus, a rocking toy elevated to the rank of a god. With its dark eyes, Knossos invites us into the mystery of ancient civilisations.
“The snout emerges from the earth, two fine little nostrils, the ridge on the back underlines the bull’s strength. I could feel the figure form beneath my fingertips.”
